MATTHEW STAINER - BSc (Hons) FDAP

Specialist Addiction Counsellor

I am a qualified and accredited addictions therapist with over 4 years’ experience of working alongside adults with substance use disorders and behavioural addictions. I offer a safe and confidential space in which to work through your presenting issues, whilst offering a supportive relationship alongside you to meet your goals of therapy. Having recently completed a Bachelor of Science degree, I pride myself on having up to date knowledge of the drug and alcohol field and am able to integrate various therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Relapse prevention, to ensure that your treatment is tailored to your specific needs.
My therapy style is flexible, with an emphasis on the relational elements which are evidenced to improve therapeutic outcomes. I tend to focus not only on the causation of the presenting problems but work towards finding appropriate solutions to both short- and long-term issues.
Addictive disorders present human beings with a myriad of problems. Having had experience of addiction myself, I can assure you that the space I offer is empathic and without judgment. My own personal experience coupled with my qualifications is utilised to offer a sense of relief from an otherwise lonely place.
I currently offer face to face therapy in Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire and also offer online counselling, via Skype.

RICHARD TURRELL - BSc (Hons) FDAP

Specialist Addiction Counsellor

I have worked in the field of substance misuse since 2012, and am experienced in working with people from a variety of backgrounds seeking to find freedom from issues relating to substance or behavioural addictions. I work with people over differing lengths of time. This ranges from short interventions aimed at helping individuals find coping skills and resources to address the addiction itself, to longer term work which goes beyond this to help understand, address and resolve the issues that lie beneath the substance use or unhealthy behaviour.
My aim is to form a relationship with my clients which allows me to understand the role and impact of the presenting issues in their lives. I operate from a position of compassionate enquiry, exploring the addiction, the purposes it may be serving and the needs it may be meeting in a non-judgemental manner. I draw on a number of evidence-based approaches to addiction treatment (e.g. CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mutual Aid facilitation, Relapse Prevention) to find a way of working which is the best fit for the client in question. This allows me to help them identify coping skills that will support them in their chosen goals.  I have a proven track record of effective working with people with alcohol, drug and behavioural addictions (e.g. sex, gambling, work, technology) of a wide range of ages and backgrounds.
I currently provide face to face addiction counselling from clinics in central London and Ealing.
